Written by Sony Pictures Entertainment. And in many aspects this is better than , Volcano, or other movies like these.
For starters, there is an actual plot to the movie before the volcano erupts. Other things I liked: The gladiatorial theme is well presented.
You can see people who hate being a gladiator, people who are just waiting for their freedom, people who believe they are gods in the arena, and so on, and you can watch how the majority of Romans loved these shows, but some didn't.
You can make yourself an idea of the weather of that theme. The romance is believable. I mean, it happens very fast, but it's not Disney's "Real Love" They are just two people who LIKE each other caught in the massive chaos of a volcano, not much more.
Not only the gigantic explosion and lava bombs, and tsunamis. Also the small things, like the views of the city in the background, and the aerial shots.
The city was amazing. People complain "Pompeii is not a port city" Well, actually it WAS, but the eruption changed the shape of the coastline.
They actually shoot in place and then recreated the city out of the remainings using CGI. So the grid shape, the walls and everything is in place just as it was years ago.
Archaeologists have in fact praised the director for his recreation of the city the volcano. It's the star of the movie without a doubt.
It seems to have almost a personality. The way the eruption happened was very close to what actually happened.
Some artistic liberties were made for the sake of entertaining. The ending. It was amazing. I can't spoil it for you, but making it in any other way would have damaged the quality of the film.
The acting. It was really good for what I was expecting. Milo surprised me a lot, because I could really believe him as a lead man. The girl also.
She seemed so plain in photos, but once the movie started I could say she nailed the part perfectly and was by no means just "miss fanservice", as girls in these kinds of movies tend to be.
The real surprise was Atticus. The actor totally stealed the movie for himself in every scene, something that was perfect for an invicted champion in the peak of his gladiatorial career.
What didn't I like? The fact that the other famous city in the vicinity of Vesubius Herculaeum, I think it's called wasn't showed in the aerial shots.
I mean, obviously the movie would be to complicated if we include it in the plot, but an aerial cameo of this other city would have been a fine addition to the movie, and would have improved the accuracy of it.

Anderson has described other aspects of the film as being less rigorously historical. For example, he states that the timeframe of the events was compacted in order to keep the intensity levels high.
His portrayal of some aspects of the eruption, in particular the inclusion of fireballs raining from the sky, were included for dramatic effect rather than historical accuracy.
The characters themselves are fictional. Anderson found inspiration for them in real people, representing the famous plaster cast of the "twin lovers" of Pompeii as Milo and Cassia, and finding inspiration for Atticus in the casts of the cowering man.
Anderson said he received approval from every vulcanologist and historian he has shown the movie to, having received "high marks for both scientific and historical accuracy", which is what the team was striving for.

The film relies for its reconstruction of historical events on two letters from Pliny the Younger to the Roman historian, Tacitus.
It opens with the quotation from Pliny: "You could hear the shrieks of women, the wailing of infants, and the shouting of men; some were calling their parents, others their children or their wives, trying to recognize them by their voices.
People bewailed their own fate or that of their relatives, and there were some who prayed for death in their terror of dying. Many besought the aid of the gods, but still more imagined there were no gods left, and that the universe was plunged into eternal darkness for evermore.
The depiction of the eruption is based on eruptions which occurred all over the world over the last ten years.
Anderson cites the volcanic eruption of Mount Etna in Italy and various eruptions of Japanese volcanoes as specific examples of volcanic eruptions which the production crew observed through footage which has been captured on film.
The animation team was so concerned with realism in the eruption that they would always have real photographs and footage of real eruptions visible to them on separate screens as they put together the eruption of Mount Vesuvius for the film.

E vorba de gusturi si de oameni. Mie de exemplu mi s-au parut tampenii filme de legenda precum Pulp Fiction sau Fight Club, dar mi-au placut foarte mult chestii usoare cum ar fi That awkward moment sau 13 sins, implicit am dat note mai mari in situatiile cu pricina.
Pana la urma e vorba de senzatia cu care ramane fiecare dupa vizionare. A fost un exemplu, stiu ca e diferenta enorma de valoare, dar e exact cum spuneam, depinde cum il prinde pe fiecare!
Si inca ceva, mai depinde si de modul in care asisti la un film. Daca vezi un cam amarat de pe torrente, normal ca nu are ce sa te atraga.
