Guys; it is all about money, Hollywood always is; the original movie is fantastic: real faces, real Sweden, real Larssons plot, nobody can do it better, but — distribution here in Canada was low key, no promotion, just a few cinemas, clearly aimed at saving all the dollars for the Hollywood remake, while creating impression that the movie is available, but… not where you live… Most of my friends made an effort to find and see it anyway, so much for subtitles not working in North America.
Ellen Page could portray Lisbeth quite well. Nor will I. Jolie, Brad Pitt, Geo. Clooney, PeeWee Hermon……. Lisbeth is 27 yrs. AJ lost her edge yrs.
The film was great.. David Fincher will only be able to understand the kinky and, at times, nihilistic part of Lisbeth Salander, but her sense of justice, fairness and truthfullness will evade him, I think.
Find a fairly unknown, but wonderfully terrifying actress to play Salander. Clooney can play himself as Mikael Blomkvist. The movie will not do justice to the book, but we knew this would happen.

The original movies were well made and true to the novels. No need to see the Hollywood versions. Watch those idiots put someone like Cher in the role of Lisbeth.

Natalie Portman would make a more believable Lisbeth Salander. Lisbeth was very tiny; her small size was an important part of her character.

The picture of the Sweedish movie box showed a female who looked tough, but a little older than I would have pictured the character from the descriptions in the book.

I ordered the Swedish movie — should be here any day. I hate the thought of the characters being changed to fit some actor and actress. After reading the books, I felt as though Mikhail was more a Daniel Craig type.

The wonderful Swedish cast add freshness and vulnerability to the characters that would be tainted by Hollywood assimilation.
As for Lisbeth…not sure I can see Carey in the part. Perhaps Natalie Portman though, for sure. Agreed, she needs to be tiny. Winona Ryder in her day would have been great!
Kristen Stewart — the right look, but not sure her acting is up to scratch. I agree with you. The movie stays true to the book but it is hard to read the sub-titles and still watch what is going on.
I think Colin Firth would be a great Blomkvist. The accent would help. Natalie Portman would be the right size. She might be good but I like the suggestion about Ellen Paige too!

Some of the character development and interaction was completely left out of the movies as well. This needs to be better. If it makes for a longer movie then so be it.

It will be like the Da Vinci Code — fun book to read but worst movie ever. I totally agree with Kathleen, there is no need for Hollywood to remake these excellent movies.
I would only say that Rapace did ok in the role as Salander. Do I think that HW is going to make the movies better, probably not as it pretty much butchers every adaptation as well, but I am holding out hope.
The director that was chosen definitely has the chops to make a good movie, but I really think this thing comes down to the screen play, which thankfully they are completely rewriting instead of using the Swedish films screenplays.
Enough material was left out of the 1st Swedish version directed by Neils Oplev that a fuller more complete story could be told.
There were some things left out from the book but I still thought they were great films. The kewpie doll faces of Pitt and Clooney will be ridiculous, and Depp is too much like Lisbeth T herself to make it believable.

I totally agree, I do not think that the Americans can do a better job at this trilogy than what the Swedish has done. I will have to see the American version first before I change my mind.
Options are wonderful things. There are many potential Stieg Larsson fans in the US that will not watch a movie that has been dubbed or my preference subtitles.
It distracts from thier immersion in the story. I will definitely watch the Swedish films, just as I will watch the HW version. These are wonderful quirky works with message that is relevant.
There is room in this world for both. My only request is that they do it well. After reading the first book, I cannot picture any of the three actors named above in that role.
This will make the role more interesting and believable in my opinion. The only reason I would ever want Hollywood to remake the film is because they might show less of the rape scene and then my mom would let me see it!
