I don't know that I've seen a better setup for lipstick lesbian film. Once you meet the two leaders of the women there is a lot of setup for seduction, betrayal, and heat.
I watched the movie all the way through and can sadly say it never delivers on that setup. I have never read the writings this film was based on but I can only hope they were better and more detailed.
A lot of the dialog is dull, the plot isn't awful for a 50's sci fi. There is some heavy handed social commentary about futuristic societies and matriarchies.
The nonsense laws that get spouted from time to time made me chuckle. I would have been harsher in the ratings but I liked all the lovely women running around in sexy battle costumes.
Also the leaders of the two women factions made me chuckle quite a bit, one with her over the top acting and the other had a hard time delivering any lines.
I think both were Playboy bunnies so I can only assume some director offered them these roles as a career launch vehicle.
Despite the sometimes awkward dialogue and dubious science behind the plot, this was better than most. I tip my hat to the producers of the film for resisting any such temptations, especially in light of the fact many of the women in the movie were very attractive - film making, as an art form, apparently is not extinct yet.
I recognized the male lead who played Adam Wade from other films and he was probably the best actor in the movie, though the woman playing Sumuru also had some very good moments.
It was obvious that the producers didn't have a big budget for this one and the special effects showed it. However, despite the film's shortcomings, I found myself having a connection with the characters, and the idea of a lost colony that ironically ends up being humanity's salvation is a refreshing idea.
I am giving this three stars because of the creativity and effort taken to make a decent film despite an obviously restricted budget.
One person found this helpful. I realize that this story had been told countless times in books and on screen.
However, I gave it five stars for the luscious eye candy in the film. Dolan sharing the same screen they are hard to miss and a joy to watch.
Decent story. Slightly sub-par FX. In a movie like this where you have constant sexy women in hot space girl outfits wall to wall, from minute one to the very end, you might as well throw in between 4 to 6 tit shots.
They didn't do that. I'm just saying. All that being said, I still highly recommend this movie for the constant sexy cleavage, and the fairly interesting sci-fi plot.
